Microblading Before & After Considerations
Are you ready to schedule your service to create some personalized beautiful brows, eyes, and lips?? How exciting!
Permanent makeup services involve an artist and a client much like artwork involves a painter and a canvas. To achieve the best possible outcome, the client needs to make sure that their skin and brows, “the canvas” are in the best possible health the day they arrive for their appointment and in the weeks to follow the appointment.
Read below to learn how to prepare your skin before the appointment and get some tips on what to expect before, during, and after your services. Please read the very end of this page to see who should not receive this service.
What to expect from your brow permanent makeup/microblading session.
Microblading services usually require more than one treatment. Plan on two sessions to achieve final result. At least one touch-up session is required. This will need to be done between 5-8 weeks after your first session.
After the first session, the brows will look quite a bit darker than the healed result. Healed results can lighten between 30-50%.
Numbing cream will be used before and during the appointment. The goal is to keep you extremely comfortable (some clients actually sleep during this), however, some may feel some discomfort although mild.
Depending on skin sensitivity, some skin will look perfectly normal while some may experience some redness and swelling. This can last up to a few days. Your after-care instructions are there to help you to take care of your skin and brows for the best results.
What to expect directly after a permanent makeup session
The evening of the procedure you may find them to be a bit sore to the touch and a little red or pink.
While very unlikely, an allergic reaction can happen to pigment or numbing cream. If this happens, you should contact your doctor right away.
The day after the pigment will look much darker. This is due to how the skin heals the pigment. Your healed result will look much different.
You will not get brows wet for up to 2 weeks after treatment or until all flaking has fallen off. It’s important to pat them dry and blot them and NOT rub them.
It’s important not to rub or scratch them and allow any scabbing to come off naturally.
The pigment will change during the healing process due to the skin and how it is healing beneath the surface. At times, the pigment may seem to disappear only to reappear a few weeks later.
How to care for your new eyebrows after your service
You will be given a gentle cleanser and after-care cream to apply to the area along with written instructions.
No makeup should be applied to the brows during healing. This includes brow gel, pencils, and tinting of brows.
No hot showers to the face, submerging tattoos in water, swimming pools, lakes, hot tubs. No saunas, steam rooms for at least 14 days after tattoo.
The brow area is to be kept completely dry for 14 days. You will have to be extremely careful to not get brows wet at all for 14 days.
NO EXCESSIVE EXERCISE FOR AT LEAST 10 DAYS. The reason for this is sweat has a salt component to it and it can lighten or remove pigment in the brows.
No retinol products for 14 days prior and none during the healing phase. Retinol is an exfoliant and can make skin sensitive and prevent pigment from lasting and can also make brow color fade faster.
No glycolic, benzoyl peroxide products or cleansers should be used at all during the healing phase.
DO NOT HAVE THIS PROCEDURE DONE BEFORE ANY VACATION THAT MAY INVOLVE OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES.
No makeup is to be applied to the brow area for 4 weeks after the procedure. This includes eyebrow gel, pencil, and eyebrow tinting.
No picking or scratching the area.
If you have esthetic or medical procedures after service permanent makeup
You should wait at least 6 weeks after your healing phase to have any time of procedure on your skin. Please inform your skincare provider that you have had permanent makeup done.
If you are due to have an MRI scan, please let your doctor know that you have had a permanent makeup service.
If you are due to give blood after the procedure, please inform your nurse or doctor that you have had a permanent makeup procedure. You may not be able to donate blood for up to a year.
Who should NOT receive a permanent makeup service or consult a doctor prior to service?
A thorough medical history will be taken before treatment. Consultations are required prior to booking. Unfortunately, some medical conditions will not allow for microblading. Some of these are exclusions while some may require a doctor’s authorization.
NOTE--Covid vaccine (must wait 4 weeks post-vaccine)All cosmetic skin treatments will need to be discussed before appt. If under the care of a dermatologist all topical creams and medications need to be discussed. If any doubt, please mention before booking appt.
